You guys, Spring is here!!! I declare it! The view from my open window is of sunny blue skies and pink pom pom shaped blossoms on the trees just outside. It is totally exhilarating. I can’t imagine a better way to spend these mild, breezy days than renovating our first home with my husband! We’ve been working non stop to rip out layer after layer of old carpet and padding, prying decaying trim from windows and doors, and crawling on our hands and knees to pull out stubborn staples and nails from a neglected but beautiful hardwood floor. As we worked, we kept the windows and doors open so that what I have dubbed “the funk of fifty thousand years” can escape from the house. The house is only fifty-eight years old, but it was long overdue for the loving but thorough scouring we are giving it. I can’t help but picture the house sighing with relief every time I pry a rusty nail from her walls or rumbling with laughter at the tickle of the heavy industrial sander we’re using to expose her bare wood planks. She’s coming around.
The potential we’re uncovering in this dirty old house is so exciting and a perfect metaphor for Spring. Together, we’re clearing out the old, the stagnant, and the things that don’t serve us to make way for the new. We’re carving a place in the earth where our relationship can grow and our dreams can develop. I will also be literally growing a ton of plants (because that’s how I roll) and planting my first raised bed garden!
All this work has left me in varying but constant states of being tired. Between working on the house every weekend, working on the house after work, and working on our actual jobs, there’s no time to recover. I can recover when we finish working and moving in a month in a half. HA! I was really dragging this past weekend when I realized that in my hurry to rush off to work on the house every morning, I had neglected to make myself a morning smoothie for, wait for it. three. DAYS. in a row. If you know me, you know I don’t function without a massive smoothie every morning.
This Spring Cleaning Green Smoothie is the smoothie that filled that three day wide abyss of darkness as only a truly colossal smoothie could. They will write songs in its honor.
This Spring Cleaning Green Smoothie is delicious, filling, and so very green. “FRESH” is the best word to describe the flavor, and even that seems like an understatement. It will rejuvenate your body and energize your mind. With not-so-subtle hints of lime and mint, it will remind you that summer is just around the corner and that new experiences await you!

PS. YES, this recipe makes 64oz of pure green bliss. This is a judgement free space, so I feel comfortable telling you that even though I split this with my husband, I regularly consume smoothies over 40oz… What?! Just cut the recipe in half if you don’t share my degree of smoothie obsession.
